European information pool and Discussion forum on the Internet relating to issues of voluntary work in non-governmental organisations

 

Bagso, a German federal association of senior citizens' organisations - representatives body of senior citizens and ISIS, a German research Institute specialised in social issues initiated this European project which gathers 5 countries : France, Germany, Greece, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.
The results are presented on the web site implemented by ISIS : http://www.euro-volunteer.org

Presentation

Thanks to the project, information on model practices in voluntary work in NGOs was collected in the following priority socio-political areas (100 initiatives in each of the 5 countries) :

- activities connected with the labour market and promotion of regional economic development ;

- contribution to the social security systems, such as care and assistance to the elderly and handicapped ;

- projects aimed at improving relations between the generations ;

- activities to promote international relations.

Aims of the project

• The setting of an information pool on the Intrenet will allow the NGOs to get answers that are directly focused on the implementation and practice of voluntary work.
• The setting up on the Internet of a discussion forum devoted to socio-political questions for further exchange of ideas and thus open up possibilities for the elaboration of proposals for action..

Implementation of the work
The contractual partner of the European Commission and general supervisor of the project was the organisation BAGSO which worked together with ISIS, in charge of coordinating research work at the European level. For the national projects Bagso designated for each of the countries concerned a voluntary organsiation and a competent research institute.
