This journal from the UK/US law firm Withers informs on legal
issues arising from collecting and transacting arts, and thus offers the latest news for art market professionals and collectors.
Worth noting in this issue is the article on the British Museum's
difficulty to lawfully return the
works of arts looted by the Nazis to the heirs of the original owner; in
fact, the current British legislation does not comply with Council of
Europe Resolution 1205 of 1999 which invited member states to amend their
laws to facilitate the return of looted Jewish cultural property.
Also interesting is the article on copyright protection of modern
editions of out-of-copyright music; it reports on a court case in the UK
against the label Hyperion, in which a musicological scholar obtained
copyright for his performing edition of the musical works of French baroque composer Lalande.
