Art and Cultural Assets
Summer/Autumn 2006

This journal from the British law firm Withers informs on legal issues arising from collecting and transacting arts, offering the latest news for art market professionals and collectors.

The opening article deals with bidding practices at actions; the titles of the other articles are reproduced below. Though mainly addressed to art galleries, the article on the use of images of the exhibited works of art in brochures, posters and catalogues gives a succinct practical overview of UK copyright law regarding artistic works.

Of interest for international collection mobility are the plans of the British government to introduce legislation which would protect works of art on loan from other countries against seizure.

Another proposed legislation would remove barriers and restrictions to allow UK museums to return items, lost during the Nazi era and now in their possession.
