Art Newspaper
no. 178, March 2007

The highlight in this number are the exhibition attendance figures for 2006 (p. 9-14): the list includes more than 400 exhibitions worldwide which were the best visited, in order of visitor numbers, and provides also a list of top ten by capital. None of the Council of Europe art exhibitions made it on this list, whereas Europe without Borders on the development of Europe's artistic diversity, the exhibition organised in Vienna in connection with Austria's Presidency of the European Union, reached a top position. The introductory article discusses influencing factors, such as venue capacity and exhibition content.

Also to look out for:  proposed funding cuts for the British Library which might result in admission charges (p. 22); the situation of museums in Russia according to a report of the Russian Cultural Ministry: "Culture Ministry has no idea how many museums there are in the country" (p. 23).

The supplements include the dossier What's on providing information on activities of museums and galleries, fairs, auctions and so on worldwide during March 2007.
