Journal of Arts Management, Law and Society
vol. 34 (4), winter 2005

The theme of this issue is cultural preservation and the challenges that arise from selected contemporary practices and initiatives. Drawing on examples from the United States, the contributions look at the commissioning of public art, the conflict between historic preservation and artistic expression, and the effort of an NGO in preserving and disseminating jazz.

Worth attention is the article by Marontate who presents the impact of technological change in the arts on preservation; he discusses the place of new creative art forms, including electronic or digital artworks, in the social organisation of cultural heritage preservation in museum contexts and looks also more generally at art conservation practices in the light of new technologies.
