Of special interest is the opening article on the diversity of television programme supply in several EU countries: the author finds that maintaining or improving diversity requires a balance between competition, concentration and public broadcasting, a balance that differs from country to country and that in future might be additionally affected by competition from mono-thematic channels.

To look out for among the shorter papers: Locher investigates the impact of different payment schemes for public library borrowings in Germany; she concludes that a fee mainly eliminates nominal - i.e. non-active - users and increases the library's effort.
