L'Observatoire des politiques culturelles
no. 29, hiver 2006

Of special interest in this number is the dossier on the challenges of cultural diversity, now that the UNESCO Convention has been adopted. Contributors deal with the scope of this new international instrument, both globally and at national level, reflect on its possible impact, and comment on suitable applications of its principles.

Smiers, for example, proposes ten strategies for international NGOs in the cultural sector for following up the implementation of the Convention. Négrier discusses cultural diversity as intervention principle in public policy, linking it to the debate on cultural democracy; he argues that real intercultural practices happen beyond cultural policy. Saez investigates the impact of globalisation on culture, highlighting changes and trends. Meyer-Bisch presents the universal value of cultural rights.

Abstracts are accessible online on the website of the Observatoire at this external link.
