Tourism
vol. 53 (4) 2005

Under the heading of "Tourism, performance and postmodernism", this special issue gathers six papers from the First International Critical Tourism Studies Conference (Dubrovnik, 2005) on aspects of the production and consumption of tourism experiences, related to the themes of identity and performance.

Collective identity is the subject of Ooi’s article on heritage and nation-building in Singapore, whereas the contributions by Quinn/Turley, Westwood and Bell/Lyall explore how tourism manifests and constitutes self-identity (how we see ourselves) and social identity (how we present and communicate this to others). Worth noting is the paper by Robinson on the impact of creativity on turnover behaviour of professional chefs.
