This number is a special issue on tourism development in the Mediterranean. The spatial extent of the Mediterranean, incorporating a diversity of cultural and natural environments, presents both opportunities and challenges for tourism development, touching on governance, policy and planning.

This special issue draws together papers which utilise an interdisciplinary approach to tourism in the Mediterranean with examples from Spain, Egypt, Croatia, Turkey, and Greece. Themes explored represent the current state of major concerns found in the tourism development literature, addressing a wide array of issues including planning, management and marketing of tourism.
