PART 1: from 4000BC to 5AD

Pre-thinking

All the information about the setup and the rules of Epic3 could be found there: http://realmsbeyond.net/civ/c4tourney/epic3.html.

The scoring awards points mainly in 2 categories: fastest victories (by type) and population (at fixed date and biggest city).

The map being Archipelago, no barbarians and with less than the default number of opponent, I intended to neglect military in the beginning, try to get as much population (ie accept very low research rate) up to 5AD and then try to recover from the tech hole that I might be in. The “big city” site probably can wait a bit but not to much as growing the last population will take ages. The victory will be either Conquest or Diplomatic as Culture should required to plan it a bit too much in advance, and could clash with biggest city strategy (ie trying to get Artist instead of Merchant).

The opening

The Quechua is moved onto the Wheat, hoping to find some seafood, but no chance on that.

I decide anyway to lose a turn and move the settle on the sea between both food bonus, to have fresh water and later 3 food-lakes.

Production is set to worker ASAP and research towards Granary (since I already know enough techs to give plenty of works to the worker).

The early productions and research were was as followed, trying to grow asap to max population for Cuzco and neglecting religion completely.

Research: the Wheel (3550BC), Pottery (3070BC), Animal Husbandry (2440BC), Mining (2110BC), Bronze Working (1450BC), Iron Working (805BC), Masonry (610BC)

Production: Worker (3280BC), Quechua (2920BC), Granary (2320BC), Quechua x2 (2170BC & 2050BC), Settler (1720BC), Worker (1540BC), Settler (1210BC), Quechua (1150BC), Settler (925BC).

Cuzco reached size 5 (maximum before connecting happiness resources) quite quickly in 2110BC and then start producing Settlers and Worker mainly.

The Quechuas did not too bad with their exploring and opening huts: 2 techs the Wheel (with only 3t left on the research) and fishing (completely free), some money and enough XP to get one to get promoted to 10XP (Woodsman II + Medic I), which will let me build the Military Epic without any fighting.

Surprise, surprise…

In 2740BC, a French scout arrived next to Cuzco, changing a little bit the master plans, especially since he has almost twice my score.

Research is set towards the needed Metals to be able to get some and repulse any silliness.

The surroundings are quite well known, but there are still lots of unexplored lands in the West and this scout managed to so I expected France to be far away anyway, so the settlings plans are not rushed.

Then around 1200BC, I discovered some French borders right north of me, were I thought the peninsula was ending, and that decided pretty much were the next 2 cities will be. Machu-Picchu, a food happy city (1120BC) and Ollantaytambo, a hammer happy city (865BC) are in charge of stopping the French expansions and forcing them to use boat to settle on my part of the island.

With only 1 Iron quite close, Coriahuayrachina is founded in 595BC on the southern shore. This city will be almost always on military duty for the rest of the Empire (with Military Epic much later). As a side note, the impacts of this city on the finance is bad enough to be now with a deficit at 50% research…

Hinduism, founded by Louis, finally arrived in Machu Pichu in 520BC, is adopted as official religion and will be actively spread everywhere, giving some needed extra happiness as well as better relations with Louis (not a chance for Open Border).

With Louis starting to have galley and by-passing our closed borders, a last city is founded in 130BC to secure some Copper.

The AD mark is finally reached with a population of 624.000 (2nd behind an unknown AI probably).
