Cultural Trends
vol. 14 (3), 2005 - issue 55

This issue focuses on measuring and evaluating cultural activities.

Chan and Goldthorpe deal with the relationship between social inequality and cultural consumption in the United Kingdom. Based on a survey of 2001, the authors analyse the influence of class, status, income and education on cultural taste and practices. In an attached commentary, the Arts Council of England replies to these findings, highlighting the consequences for policy making.

The literature review on cultural indicators by Madden is an account of the state of art of quantitative indicator development for monitoring arts and cultural policies (see also the abstract in New Acquisitions March 2006).
