Economia della cultura
2 - 2006

This number of the journal of the Italian Association of Cultural Economics is dedicated to the topic of access to culture, looking at issues such as cultural demand, cultural consumption, Rome's local access policy, theatre audiences, and cultural heritage education.

The introductory chapter by Fourteau is worth reading: she traces the changes in the remit of museums from the democratisation phase to the economisation of culture, which corresponds to a change from a logic of supply to one of demand.

Of special interest is the article by Giovinazzo who takes stock of the activities of the Council of Europe in support of access to culture with specific regard to disabled and disadvantaged people (see also the abstract in the New Acquisitions May 2006).

Also to look out for: the paper on the new role of audience advocates, and an interesting review of various initiatives in Great Britain which, in different ways, set out to change the social structure of visitors to museums and galleries.
