This number of the journal of the
Italian Association of Cultural Economics is dedicated to the topic of
cultural architecture, looking at cultural buildings of larger nature in
urban areas. Articles deal with the changing meaning and role of important cultural buildings (Manieri Elia); the creation of attractive spaces in metropolitan areas (Oliva); architectural projects for contemporary culture (Desideri); urban strategies which combine cultural economies and urban regeneration, taking into account the importance of urban architecture for the social identity of a city (Valentino). Of special interest is the paper by Ponzini who examines the policy-making practices in the construction of cultural facilities for urban regeneration, highlighting paradoxical and unintended effects of public-private partnerships. Also worth reading is Leira's contribution on the case of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Articles in the remaining journal deal with cultural tourism in Italy; museum strategies in the region of Veneto; cultural decentralisation at regional level in Spain; and the social, legal and economic values of cultural branding. |
