International Cultural Compass
 no. 42, 2005

This newsletter by the London-based "Intelligence on Culture" (ex International Art Bureau) reports on developments in the cultural sector at European and international levels, news of the community, funding possibilities, conferences, new publications, etc.

The first article reports on the European Parliament debate regarding the planned Culture 2007 programme. The Parliament agreed to increase the budget to 500 million €. During the discussion, it was proposed that the programme should play a greater role in strengthening the intercultural dialogue between the EU and Eastern and Mediterranean countries; another proposal wanted the programme to do more for protecting minority languages and cultures.

Of further interest might be the presentation of the Joint Action Plan "India-EU Strategic Partnership", adopted in New Delhi in September 2005, which envisages also the improvement of cultural relations.
