International Journal of Heritage Studies
vol. 13 (3), May 2007

Of special interest in this issue is the article by Haddad on the use of ancient places of performance: he reviews international texts and highlights the importance to find a balance between monument protection and expectations of audiences, visitors and local communities.

Also worth attention: the article by Wallace on heritage events in the UK which commemorate the railways of the 1940s and provide the community with occasions to perform situations and dress-up according to that period. The article on ecomuseums in Northern Italy focuses on the methods of evaluation and performance measurement.

This number features for the first time a Project Reviews section, including analytical critiques of recent heritage interpretation projects. The purpose is to share experiences and to indicate dangers, following an objective and neutral analysis. In this issue, the projects reviewed are a site in California commemorating the internment of Japanese during World War II, and a historical nation-building site in Canada.
