This issue is dedicated to the
institutionalisation processes in the visual and performing arts from a historical and
a political point of view. The articles present case studies on
different themes: models for corporate philanthropy, the
institutionalisation of standards for art materials and techniques, the
place of national identity in recognition processes, and the emergence of
new artistic genres.
Of special interest is the article by Shapiro on the development of
hip-hop dance as new art practice in France and how this art form, that
originated in the USA, was transformed and adapted to French culture.
