Journal of Arts Management, Law and Society
vol. 35 (2), summer 2005

The journal presents itself in a new format with a theme section, called "symposium", and a section with articles on other topics. The articles in this issue's symposium deal with ownership of cultural property.

The opening article on international policies in cultural property protection examines instruments such as the UNESCO Convention of 1970, highlighting the role of arts professionals in its implementation. In the following article, Goldsleger explores the (legal) difficulties of restitution, discussing whether artefacts removed from individuals, nations, civilizations, or cultural groups should be returned.

The research article by Hasitschka/Tschmuck/Zembylas introduce the Cultural Institutions Studies as an alternative approach to cultural goods and services, as economic analysis fails to understand the complexity of the cultural sector.
