Entitled "Europe's
big culture conversation", this issue of the magazine of the European
Commission's DG Education and Culture is dedicated to the European Year of
Intercultural Dialogue 2008. The year is about celebrating the EU's cultural
diversity and how this can pave the way to greater unity through mutual
understanding and active European citizenship. The articles describe the preparatory work of the Commission; present the views of cultural professionals and managers, including from the European Cultural Foundation and the European Forum for the Arts and Heritage (EFAH); introduce some good practices of intercultural dialogue (so-called "bright ideas"); and address the role of journalists in fostering understanding. The final part is dedicated to the mainstreaming of intercultural dialogue into various policy areas of the European Union, covering sport, technological innovations, youth and education.
