Forest

Dominant element of the landscapes of Morvan, the forest varies according to height.  Above 700m, summits are covered by the beech grove.

Below this limit, the beech grove – Oak grove extends over the poorest grounds resulting from the change of the granite, the beech grove – hornbeam's wood occupying the bottom of valleys richer in alluviums and the alder – ash-grove the wettest zones. However, conifers were introduced: common spruce, fir-tree, larch and Douglas.

These monotonous population, realized after a heavy felling which favours the erosion, have serious consequences, not only as regards the aspect of this landscape but also on hydrology, fauna and flora of Morvan.
