This special number is dedicated to cultural rights and cultural conditions in
the digital era. The dossier features seven articles which deal with
compensation for private copying; new economic models for dissemination of
music via the Internet; the opportunities of digital cinema; the ongoing work
on redesigning the Television without Frontiers Directive; the free license
scheme Creative Commons; Digital Rights Management
systems; and the request of the European Commission for competition between
Collective Management Societies. The section on artists presents some practices of arts and culture which make use of the new technologies. Also the press survey focuses on articles around digital culture. Two highlights: according to the International Federation of Phonographic Industries the downloading of music from the Internet doubled worldwide in 2006. The popular video-sharing site YouTube announced that they will share some of their advertising income with the authors of the videos on the site. |
