This number's dossier focuses on the preservation and dissemination of audiovisual and cinematographic heritage. It presents the activities and projects of the relevant French bodies, such as the Institut national de l'audiovisuel or the Centre national de la cinématographie, considering also the legal aspects such as copyright, legal deposit and the International Standard Audiovisual Number (ISAN).

Of special interest is the short article on the EU PrestoSpace project which aims at developing standards and integrated systems for the digital preservation and restoration of, and access to all types of audio, video and film collections which were originally recorded in analogue format.
