This newsletter, created upon the
entry into force of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible
Cultural Heritage in April 2006, reports on the ongoing work of the UNESCO
Intangible Heritage section. This special issue is devoted to the Section's endangered languages programme, aimed at safeguarding and promoting linguistic heritage and diversity. It starts with a quote by David Crystal, a renowned linguist: "The world is a mosaic of visions and each vision is encapsulated by a language. Every time a language is lost, one vision of the world disappears." The newsletter is available in PDF from the UNESCO website at this external link. |
