International Journal of Cultural Policy
vol. 13 (1), 2007

Again, a highly interesting and inspiring number!

Based on a critical review of policy definitions of creative industries, Galloway/Dunlop argue against the knowledge economy-based approach to cultural industries in favour of a public policy based on cultural objectives. Zan/Baraldi/Gordon investigate the transformation of cultural heritage management in Italy, proposing various solutions for further reforms including outsourcing, devolution, managerialism and privatisation.

Also to look out for: Crespi-Vallbona/Richards analyse the vibrant festival culture in Catalunya in relation to the expectations of policy makers and cultural producers and their relationship with stakeholders.

Also of interest are the two articles examining the benefits of the arts: Macnaughton presents a case of a hospital design in the UK, showing the wider role of arts in hospitals and hospital buildings; Wright proposes an approach to set up arts programmes for young people in communities.
