International Journal of Heritage Studies
vol. 13 (1), January 2007

This is a new journal in our collection as of 2007. It addresses the heritage community at the international level, reaching out to academics and professionals alike.

This first issue of the year is a good example of the many aspects of heritage the journal touches upon, representing the range of heritage, from natural to cultural, and from tangible to intangible. Spennemann develops a conceptual understanding of an emergent heritage: robots. Gough considers the significance and value of two community gardens in London as heritage sites, highlighting the need to involve the community in decision-making.  Voase analyses the impact of a heritage site - in this case a cathedral - on the individual, making contemporary interpretation of heritage a necessity. Eiter reviews the impact of transport infrastructure on the use and the conservation of cultural and natural landscapes, focusing on the mountain areas in western Norway. The final article reports a number of case studies of war memorials in Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam.
