Journal of Cultural Economics
vol. 29 (3), August 2005

This number is dedicated to the economics of the film industry. Articles deal with subjects such as the impact of Oscar nominations and awards on the financial success of movies, the prediction of a film's box-office success, and the factors affecting the decrease or increase of cinema attendance.

Of special interest is the article on the links between public aid and performance in the German film industry by Jansen who comes to the conclusion that the allocations based on an automatic support scheme  lead to more successful films than those based on a selective scheme.

The three book reviews, too, deal with publications on the film industry, looking in particular at the Hollywood majors.
