Federal Cultural Foundation Magazine
9 - April 2007

The magazine of the German Kulturstiftung des Bundes reports, in English, on the Foundation's activities and the various projects it funds.

The opening article is dedicated to the Foundation's contribution to the Ruhr region as European Capital of Culture in 2010 in form of a major project to support cultural education: all primary school children in the region - more than 200 000 children - will be given the opportunity to receive music instruction, as well as the instrument of his/her choosing, over a period of four years (2007 to 2010).

Of particular interest is the essay by Höffer who outlines, from the perspective of political philosophy, the common values on which the European community is based.

Also to look out for: the article of Zweite on the conservation of contemporary art, addressing also the ethical problems of restoring ephemeral art works. Richter reports on the cultural projects developed by young people about the future of work, sponsored by the Foundation's "The 100 000 Euro Job" initiative.
