This issue of the journal published by the Portuguese Observatory of Cultural Activities opens with an article by Dos Santos on the relationship between culture and economy, reviewing texts of Bourdieu, Sombart and Florida.

Other articles deal with the cultural policy in Brazil; the pioneering activities of an artistic residency in rural Portugal;  the education dimension of museums; a research project on careers in the Portuguese music sector.

Two papers deal with civil society: Garcia/Sécio propose a typology of the cultural and recreational associations in Lisbon; Melo investigates the voluntary cultural sector, looking in particular at partnership with public bodies.
