The focus section of this number is dedicated to the future of the city; based on a conference on this topic in Stuttgart in May 2006, articles look at the living conditions and quality of life in urban areas worldwide. An article by Rem Koolhaas on urban architecture is included.

To look out for in the remaining part of the journal: an analysis by Schöfthaler, Director of the Anna Lindh Foundation for the Dialogue between Cultures, on what went wrong with the intercultural dialogue;  he discusses the controversy around the Mohammed cartoons and presents key elements for a strategy to re-launch the dialogue.
