  Lyrics

Spiders are jumping into the light
Spiders on my skin, white night
Some ice-cold whisky flows in my brain
Deeper and deeper, cold are in my veins

This is my cell where I used to walk
This is my hell, well it's full of smoke
I saw the devil, I met a friend
I felt evil breathing at the end

I am a monster, I am a freak, I am Jesus, I am a creep
I am the father, I am the sun, I am the healer, I am the gun

There goes a night train
Right to nowhere
Tied to my ankles
Black ruby chains

Falling from the ceiling
Running on the floor
Steeling my anguish
Breaking my door

Am I a loner, am I so cold
I need a lover, let's go home
Some ice-cold whisky flows in my brain
Deeper and deeper, cold are in my veins

I am a monster, I am a freak, I am Jesus, I am a creep
I am the father, I am the sun, I am the healer, I am the gun

[Only on the demo :
Can't you see the monster that (grows up inside ?)
Can't you see the monster that ...]

I am the gun
I am the gun
I am the gun

  Versions

- There is a first version of Monster on a set of four early demos (1998?). A sentence in the lyrics will be abandoned later. Write me if you can help with the transcription. The music is quite different from the next recordings : longer, more "bluesy", less "dark", with more energy. The sound is good but not perfect.
- Then, Monster appears on Welcome to the modern dancehall (1999).
- A live re-orchestrated version appears on The man who was already dead (2000) [recorded Sept. 26th, 2000]

  Notes

As with Perfect Lover, the orchestra version from The man who was already dead surpasses the original recording, in my humble opinion.

You won't tell me, I know it's hard
To keep your dream alive
